Citation guidelines
Citations should let a reader find the evidence, understand its date, and reproduce the path to a claim.
How we cite sources
We link to the most specific available source, identify the publisher or issuer, and include the relevant filing, dataset, reporting period, or access date when useful. A homepage link alone is not sufficient for a material claim.
Citing Valuefocus
Recommended format: Valuefocus, “Page or dataset title,” page URL, last reviewed date, and access date. Keep the link close to the quoted statement, chart, or figure.
Charts, calculations, and transformations
When citing a transformed figure, distinguish the original source from the Valuefocus calculation. Preserve labels, units, as-of dates, and methodology notes so the result is not taken out of context.
Reuse and corrections
A citation does not automatically grant republication rights. Follow the license shown on the specific dataset or request permission. If a cited page is materially corrected, update downstream quotations or analysis.
